Genesis

First book of the Hebrew Bible, or Old Testament, which includes the stories of the creation of the world, Adam and Eve, the Flood, and the history of the Jewish patriarchs Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph (who brought his people to Egypt).

Genesis

British rock/pop group formed in 1967. Its members are Ray Wilson (vocalist); Mike Rutherford (bass and guitar); and Tony Banks (keyboards). Peter Gabriel was the lead vocalist 1966–75 and Phil Collins was drummer and lead vocalist until he left the group in 1996. By the end of the 1970s Genesis had established their position as one of the world's leading progressive rock bands and they continued their commercial success during the 1980s and 1990s.

They first had success with the albums Foxtrot (1972) and Genesis Live (1973). Known for their acclaimed live shows, they broke box office records in North America during their world tour in 1981–82. The hit album Invisible Touch (1986) was followed by a string of hit singles in the UK and USA. The album We Can't Dance was released in 1991 and Calling All Stations, their first album since Ray Wilson became their lead singer, was released in 1997.
