Berezovsky, Maksim Sosnovich (1745–1777)

Ukrainian composer. He was a pupil at the academy in Kiev, later a singer in the service of the court. In 1765 he went to Italy to study under Giovani Martini. On his return to the Ukraine, unable to secure an appointment, he finally committed suicide. His most important contribution was to church music; he also wrote an opera, Demofoonte (1773), and other works.
