Bergen County

County in northeastern New Jersey, on the Hudson River and the New York border; area 614 sq km/237 sq mi; population (1990) 825,400. Its capital is Hackensack. Largely residential, it contains the homes of many commuters to the New York City–north New Jersey area; such suburban municipalities as Paramus, Teaneck, and Englewood are here. The county also has numerous light industries and corporate office facilities.
