Berghaus, Ruth (1927–1996)

German stage director. She married Paul Dessau and directed his Verurteilung des Lukullus at the Berlin Staatsoper in 1960. She was director of the Berliner Ensemble 1971–77 and producer at the Frankfurt Opera from 1980; her productions included Berlioz's Les Troyens/The Trojans, and Wagner's Parsifal and Der Ring des Nibelungen/The Ring of the Nibelung (1982–87). She was noted for iconoclastic ideas, and her Don Giovanni for Welsh National Opera had a mixed response.
