Berglund, Joel (1903–1985)

Swedish baritone. He made his debut in Stockholm in 1929, and sang in Bayreuth in 1942, as the Dutchman. In 1964 he appeared at the New York Metropolitan Opera House as Sachs. His other Wagner roles in Europe and North and South America were Wotan, Kurwenal, and Gurnemanz, and he also sang Boccanegra, Philip II, and Scarpia. He directed the Stockholm Opera 1949–52.
