Bergonzi (lived 17th–18th centuries)

Italian family of violin makers who worked in Cremona. Carlo Bergonzi (c. 1683–1747) began to work independently about 1716 and created his best instruments in the 1730s, rivalling Guarnieri and Stradivari. His son was Michelangelo Bergonzi (1722–1758).
