Bering Strait

Strait between Alaska and Siberia, linking the North Pacific and Arctic oceans.

The channel, which separates the continents of North America and Asia, is about 65 km/40 mi wide at its narrowest part, but is wider at the northern and southern extremities. There are numerous bays on either side of the strait, where the waters are frozen over for several months each year. The Bering Sea is a part of the North Pacific Ocean, and is situated between Bering Strait and the Aleutian Islands.

had a settled answer: the Clovis people, flooding across the Bering Straits land bridge some 11,500 years ago, down an ice-free corridor in Western Canada, fanning out across the continent and all the way to the tip of South America.
They had supposedly migrated across the Bering Straits from Asia in pursuit of mammoths and mastodons, settled in North America, and then moved into South America, still a hunting society and living mainly in the highlands.
