Berkman, Alexander

Berkman, Alexander (1870–1936)

Russian anarchist and author. Berkman emigrated to the USA in 1887 where he became involved with radical Jewish labour groups. He served 14 years in prison for his attempted assassination of Henry C Frick, and was found guilty of opposing conscription during World War I. Berkman was eventually deported to Russia. He committed suicide in Nice, France.
