Berkshire County

County in western Massachusetts; area 2,406 sq km/929 sq mi; population (1990 est) 139,400. Its capital is Pittsfield. Taking in most of the Berkshire Hills, it is a resort area. Industry is concentrated chiefly at Pittsfield and North Adams.

The county has many popular attractions, including the Tanglewood Music Festival at Lenox and Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival at Becket. The Hoosic, Williams, Housatonic, and numerous smaller rivers drain the area. Mount Greylock (1,065 m/3,491 ft) is the highest point in Massachusetts.

The new community is located at the culturally rich crossroads of four picturesque counties: Columbia and Dutchess counties in New York; Berkshire County in Massachusetts and Litchfield County in Connecticut.
Most Massachusetts counties received average or below-average doses, the report said, but Berkshire County in the western part of the state had more than 4 rads of exposure.
It employs 166 people and has ten offices throughout Berkshire County in Great Barrington, Lee, Lenox, North Adams, Otis and Pittsfield, as well as a Loan Production Office in Colonie, New York.
