Bernalillo County

County in north-central New Mexico; area 3,028 sq km/1,169 sq mi; population (1990) 480,600. Its capital is Albuquerque. Livestock grazing, farming, coal mining, and tourism are the main industries.

The county is drained by the Rio Grande. Its southern section is a Pueblo American Indian area, while the east has part of Cibola National Forest, the Manzano Mountains, and the Sandia Mountains.

Lieutenant Gregg Marcantel of the Bernalillo County, New Mexico, Sheriff's Department--who also went to New Orleans to help out--personally knew of at least 18 boat owners who were working in cooperation with his police unit.
