Bernard, Tristan

    0.09 sec.

Bernard, Tristan (Paul) (1866–1947)

French writer and dramatist. His early plays were vaudevilles of irony and mocking humour, such as L'Anglais tel qu'on le parle/English as It Is Spoken (1899); his later plays include Triplepatte (1905; with André Godfernaux) and Le petit Café/The Small Café (1911). His novels, like his plays, satirize human weaknesses; they include Mémoires d'un jeune homme rangé/Memoirs of a Dutiful Young Man (1899).

Bernard edited various papers, including the Echo de Paris, Gil Blas, Le Journal, and Auto. His early plays included Le Fardeau de la liberté/The Burden of Liberty (1897) and Le seul Bandit du village/The Only Bandit in the Village (1898). Other later plays include La Peau de l'ours/The Bearskin (1907), M Codomat (1908), and Les deux Canards/The Two Ducks (1913). Other novels are Un Mari pacifique/A Pacifist Husband (1901), Amants et voleurs (1906), and Deux Amateurs de femmes/Two Lovers of Women (1907).
