Bernier, François (1620-1688)

French traveller who journeyed through Palestine, Egypt, and India, and was physician for eight years to the Mogul Emperor Aurangzeb. On his return he wrote a History of the Empire of the Great Mogul (1670-71), which was reprinted as The Travels of François Bernier.

He was born at Angers, France and took a degree in medicine at Montpellier.
