Berre, Etang de

Saltwater lagoon in the French département of Bouches-du-Rhône, west of Marseille; area 155 sq km/60 sq mi. It is joined to the Mediterranean by the Martigues canal and the Rove tunnel. The port and industrial development at Fos is located to the west of the lagoon.
