Berton, Henri-Montan

Berton, Henri-Montan (1767-1844)

French violinist and composer, and the son of Pierre-Montan Berton. He was violinist at the Paris Opéra from 1782, professor at the Conservatory from 1795, and conductor at the Opéra-Comique from 1807. The first of his 48 operas was produced in 1787; he collaborated with Kreutzer, Boieldieu, and Cherubini in his later works.
