Berton, Pierre-Montan (1727-1780)

French composer and conductor, and the father of Henri-Montan Berton. He was appointed conductor of the Paris Opéra in 1759 and of the Concert spirituel in 1773. He brought Gluck and Piccinni to Paris and gave operas by Lully, Rameau, and Campra in updated versions.
