Besseler, Heinrich (1900-1969)

German musicologist. He studied at Freiburg im Breisgau, Vienna, and Göttingen, where later he became lecturer at the university. He was professor at Jena, 1949, and at Leipzig from 1956. He wrote on medieval and Renaissance music, notably in Die Musik des Mittelalters und der Renaissance (1951).
