salicylic acid

Active chemical constituent of aspirin, an analgesic drug. The acid and its salts (salicylates) occur naturally in many plants; concentrated sources include willow bark and oil of wintergreen.

When purified, salicylic acid is a white solid that crystallizes into prismatic needles at 159°C/318°F. It is used as an antiseptic, in food preparation and dyestuffs, and in the preparation of aspirin.

Poly hydroxy acids are also expected to emerge as leading ingredients of skin care cosmeceuticals, capturing demand away from alpha and beta hydroxy acids in anti-wrinkle and acne products.
The most powerful substances to combat this damage, depending on the skin's affliction, are vitamin C ester (to improve fine lines, sagging or sunburned skin); alpha lipoic acid (lines, wrinkles, under-eye bags, enlarged pores, acne scars or dull skin); dimethylaminoethanol (loss of firmness, fine lines around lips, overtired skin and thin lips) and alpha and beta hydroxy acids (razor bumps, rough, dry and finely lined skin, uneven pigmentation).
The creme uses beta hydroxy acid to refine skin, resulting in a newer, smoother complexion while the eye treatment features natural botanicals such as honey.
