Betrothal in a Monastery, The

Opera by Prokofiev (libretto by the composer and M Mendelssohn, after Sheridan's play The Duenna); it was composed 1940-41 and first performed at the Kirov Theatre, Leningrad (now St Petersburg), Russia, on 3 November 1946. The story tells how, after initial opposition from their father, Louisa and Ferdinando are allowed to choose their partners in marriage.
