Bexar County

County in south-central Texas; area 3,232 sq km/1,248 sq mi; population (1990) 1,185,400. Its capital is San Antonio. The area has for many years grown peanuts, vegetables, grains, sorghum, corn, and potatoes, produced wool and mohair, and raised bees, poultry, and beef and dairy cattle. It is becoming increasingly urban and has major military bases. There are deposits of oil, natural gas, limestone, clay, and gravel.

The county is crossed by the Balcones Escarpment, which forms hills in the northwest. The rest is prairie. It is drained by the San Antonio and Medina rivers.
