Biberach an der Riss

City in the Land (administrative region) of Baden-Württemberg, Germany, on the River Riss, 85 km/53 mi southeast of Stuttgart; population (1993) 170,900. The city has machinery, chemical, and pharmaceutical industries.

Biberach was one of the city-states of the Holy Roman Empire. It has medieval towers and gates, old mansions, and a 13th–18th-century church.

The writer Christoph Martin Wieland was born here.
