gayal

Species of ox found in the highland regions of east India and Burma. The animal is often found wild, but just as frequently in a semi-domesticated condition. It is smaller than the gaur, and its horns are much straighter.

The gayal and the gaur frequently interbreed.

Classification

The gayal Bos frontalis is in family Bovidae (cattle and antelopes) of order Artiodactyla.
