Biddenden

Village in Kent, England, 21 km/13 mi southeast of Maidstone; population (2001) 2,400. The main street of the village has many 15th–18th-century half-timbered buildings. The Old Cloth Hall is a reminder of the industry formerly carried out in Biddenden by Flemish weavers. The parish church here dates from the 13th century.

The Biddenden Maids, a pair of Siamese twins known as Chulkhurst and believed to have lived in the 15th century, are commemorated in the village by a gift of bread and cheese handed out to old age pensioners every Easter Monday. The gift is handed out at the Old Workhouse, which dates from the 15th century.
