Big Bear Lake

Big Bear Lake

Reservoir in the San Bernardino Mountains of southern California, 130 km/80 mi northeast of Los Angeles. It was created in 1911 on the site of an earlier lake, and is 11 km/7 mi long and lies at an altitude of 2,060 m/6,750 ft. It is a popular winter and summer sports centre.

The city of Big Bear Lake (population (1990) 5,400) is on the southern shore; the community of Big Bear City (population (1990) 4,900) is to the east.
