Big Blue River

Name of two US rivers, in Missouri and in Nebraska and Kansas respectively. In Missouri, the Big Blue River is the name given to a short stream that begins southwest of Kansas City and flows through the town to enter the Missouri River near Independence. In October 1864, it was the site of the battle of Westport.The Big Blue River in southeastern Nebraska and northeastern Kansas rises to the east of Grand Island and the Platte River, and flows through Tuttle Creek Lake to empty into the Kansas near Manhattan.
