Bihac

Town in Bosnia-Herzegovina, on the River Una; population (1991) 71,000. It was under Turkish rule 1592-1878, and has many old buildings, including a mosque that was formerly a Gothic church. Bihac was designated a ‘safe haven’ by the United Nations 1993.

It is a Muslim-dominated city in largely Bosnian Serb territory.

They facilitated the provision of humanitarian assistance, evacuation of refugees, and POW exchange, also protecting the Moslem population in six so-called UN security zones: Sarajevo, Tusla, Zep, Goraje, Srebrenica, and Bihac, formed under UN Security Council Resolution 836, of June 4, 1993.
Places like Bihac, Banja Luka, Gornji Vakuf, Tuzla, Gorazde and Sarajevo.
The length to which it was taken is indicated by recent revelations that the British UN commander, Michael Rose, ordered British SAS (Special Air Service Regiment) scouts stationed deep inside Serb-held territory that they were not on any account to identify Serb artillery positions for NATO pilots to bomb -- even when the international mandates for this were unambiguous, and when a ferocious Serbian advance on the so-called safe area of Bihac was in full swing late in 1994.
