Biloxi

City and port in Harrison County, southeast Mississippi, USA, on the Gulf of Mexico coast; population (1990) 46,300. Its chief industries include tourism, boat building, fishing gear, and seafood canning.

Named after a local American Indian people, Biloxi was founded in 1719 by French settlers; it was incorporated as a city in 1896. The city suffered heavy damage from Hurricane Camille in 1969, but was quickly rebuilt. Keesler Air Force Base is nearby.
