Bilt, Peter van der (1936–1983)

Dutch baritone. He made his debut in Amsterdam in 1960, as Dulcamara. He sang Rossini's Basilio at San Francisco in 1963 and the following year joined the Deutsche Oper in Düsseldorf; he appeared as a guest singer in Vienna, Munich, and Los Angeles, with the Scottish Opera, and in Edinburgh. His other roles included Don Giovanni, Figaro, Varlaam, Beckmesser, and Don Quichotte. He was also well known in concert and oratorio.
