Binet, Jean (1893-1960)

Swiss composer. He studied at the Jaques-Dalcroze Institute in Geneva and with Barblan, Templeton Strong, André Bloch, and others. He lived in the USA and Brussels for a time. Several of his works were premiered by Ernest Ansermet.

Ballet

L'Ile enchantée and Le Printemps (1950).

Orchestral

suites on Swiss and English themes and dances for orchestra.

Chamber

concertino for chamber orchestra; string quartet (1927) and other chamber music.

Vocal

three psalms for chorus and orchestra; Cantate de Noël for chorus and organ; songs and part songs.
