Binkerd, Gordon (1916– )| US composer. After study at the Eastman School of Music, New York, and Harvard, he was professor at the University of Illinois 1947–71. His music is tonally chromatic and contrapuntal in scope, and includes four symphonies (1955, 1957, 1961, 1963), two string quartets (1956, 1961), a string trio (1979), four piano sonatas (1955–83), and choruses. |
