Birmingham Royal Ballet

Formerly the Sadler's Wells Royal Ballet. One of England's top ballet companies, it relocated from London's Sadler's Wells Theatre to the Birmingham Hippodrome in 1990, when it was renamed the Birmingham Royal Ballet.

The company was originally founded in 1946 as a touring company for the Royal Ballet, when it was known as the Sadler's Wells Opera Ballet (later Theatre Ballet). It was renamed the Sadler's Wells Royal Ballet in 1976, and under the direction of Sir Peter Wright 1977–95 continued to operate under the wing of the Royal Opera House, also performing at Sadler's Wells and on tour. Wright produced a much acclaimed version of the Nutcracker in 1991. David Bintley became artistic director in 1995.

The Patrick Centre (a studio theatre for new works) and the Jerwood Centre for the Prevention and Treatment of Dance Injuries were added to the Birmingham Hippodrome in 2000.
