Works for solo, chorus, and orchestra written by English composers from the Restoration onwards to commemorate royal birthdays. Purcell wrote six for Queen Mary, consort of William III, as follows: 1. Now does the Glorious Day Appear (1689), 2. Arise my Muse (1690), 3. Welcome, Welcome, Glorious Morn (1691), 4. Love's Goddess Sure was Blind (1692), 5. Celebrate this Festival (1693), 6. Come Ye Sons of Art Away (1694).
