Bishop's Castle

Market town in south Shropshire, England; population (2001) 2,300. It is situated 32 km/20 mi southwest of Shrewsbury, and about 16 km/10 mi northwest of Craven Arms.

The town has a number of Tudor buildings, including the Old Porch House. Until the passing of the Reform Act of 1832, Bishop's Castle returned two members to Parliament. The ancient castle of the bishops of Hereford, from which the town originally derived its name, has virtually disappeared.
