Bjoner, Ingrid (1927– )

Norwegian soprano. She sang Third Norn and Gutrune in a concert performance of Götterdämmerung/Twilight of the Gods for Oslo Radio in 1956, which was later issued as the opera's first recording. She made her stage debut as Donna Anna, in 1957, and appeared at Munich from 1960 as Strauss's Empress and Daphne; she sang Isolde in the centenary production of the opera's 1865 premiere there. She made her New York Metropolitan Opera House debut in 1961, as Elsa, and performed at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, from 1967 as Senta, Sieglinde, and Leonore. She sang Isolde at Bayreuth in 1986, the Dyer's Wife at Munich in 1988, and Senta at Oslo in 1989. She is also a successful recitalist in the songs of Grieg.
