Black Hawk County

County in northeastern Iowa; area 1,484 sq km/573 sq mi; population (1997 est) 121,660. The capital is Waterloo, which, with adjoining Cedar Falls, dominates the economy. Outside the cities, it is largely agricultural, with some recent industrial and residential growth in the southeast. The region was lost to the Sac and Fox Indians after the Black Hawk War of 1832, and the county was created in 1843.

The Cedar River crosses the county from the northwest to the southeast.
