Black Isle

Peninsula in east Highland unitary authority, Scotland, lying between the Cromarty Firth and Beauly Firth, with a coastline of 83 km/52 mi. Forests cover the higher central terrain, which rises to 255 m/837 ft at Mount Eagle, but much of the remainder is fertile agricultural land. Cromarty and Fortrose are the principal villages in the area.

Bobby Hogg, 89, and his brother Gordon, 82, are the last people to converse fluently in the Cromarty fisher dialect of the Black Isle, and their memories of life in the Highland village, have now been recorded and written down.
But the couple, who own 35 acres near Fortrose in the Black Isle, took their case to the Court of Session.
