Black Mountains

Mountain range in western North Carolina. They are part of the Appalachian Mountains, and lie within the Pisgah national forest. The highest point is Mount Mitchell; height 2,037 m/6,683 ft.

A spur of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Black Mountains extend for about 32 km/20 mi between the town of Black Mountain, to the south, and Burnsville, to the north. Among their other peaks is Balsam Cone 2,028 m/6,645 ft.
