Blackfeet Indian Reservation

Reservation in northwestern Montana, adjacent to Glacier National Park, along the Alberta border; area 6,142 sq km/2,371 sq mi; population (1990) 8,500 (82% American Indian). Browning is its headquarters.

The Algonquian-speaking Blackfeet, a combination of Piegan, Blood, and Siksikan groups, once controlled a vast area between the Saskatchewan and Yellowstone rivers. In this lake-dotted prairie area, they have benefited from oil and gas extraction.
