Blackmore, R(ichard) D(oddridge) (1825–1900)English novelist. His romance Lorna Doone (1869), set on Exmoor, southwest England, in the late 17th century, won him lasting popularity. He published 13 other novels, including Cradock Nowell (1866), The Maid of Sker (1872), Alice Lorraine (1875), and Springhaven (1887).
