Blamey, Thomas Albert (1884–1951)

Australian field marshal. Born in New South Wales, he served at Gallipoli, Turkey, and on the Western Front in World War I. After his recall to Australia in 1942 and appointment as commander-in-chief, Allied Land Forces, he commanded operations on the Kokoda Trail and the recapture of Papua.
