Blanc, Ernest (1923- )

French baritone. He made his debut in Marseilles in 1950, and sang with the Paris Opéra from 1954. He was well known as Scarpia and Rigoletto and in Wagner roles: he appeared at Bayreuth 1958-59 as Telramund. At Glyndebourne in 1960 he sang Don Giovanni and Bellini's Riccardo, opposite Sutherland. He was a guest singer in Milan, Vienna, Chicago, and San Francisco. He is widely known in recordings of Faust, Carmen, Les Contes d'Hoffmann/The Tales of Hoffmann, and Les Pêcheurs de perles/The Pearl Fishers.
