Blanc Sablon

Municipality in the extreme east of Québec, Canada, 1,135 km/705 mi northeast of Québec City, on the border with Labrador, on Blanc Sablon Bay and the northwest of the Strait of Belle Isle; population (1991) 1,200. There are well-known salmon rivers in the area.

It is reached by ferry from north Newfoundland and from Havre St Pierre, Québec, and is the starting point for a road that proceeds a short way up the Labrador coast. Ancient hunters' and 16th-century Basque sealing and whaling parties' artifacts have been found locally.
