Market town in Dorset, England, situated in a farming area on the River Stour, 25 km/16 mi northeast of Dorchester; population (2001) 8,800. There is a large military camp 3 km/2 mi to the northeast and there are Roman and prehistoric remains in the vicinity. Bryanston School, a private school, is nearby.

The town centre, rebuilt following a fire in 1731, has a wealth of Georgian red-brick buildings, some designed by John and William Bastard.
