Blankenheim, Toni (1921- )

German baritone. He studied with Res Fischer, and made his debut at Frankfurt in 1947, as Mozart's Figaro. From 1950 he was principal baritone at the Hamburg Staatsoper; he sang Berg's Wozzeck and Dr Schön with the company at the Sadler's Wells Theatre, London, in 1962. He performed at Bayreuth from 1954 to 1960 as Donner, Klingsor, Beckmesser, and Kothner. He has appeared widely in Europe, and in Mexico, San Francisco, and at the New York Metropolitan Opera House.
