Blarney

Town in County Cork, Republic of Ireland, 8 km/5 mi northwest of the city of Cork; population (2002) 4,900. Tourism is the principal industry, and there is some woollen manufacturing. The Blarney Stone, which is supposed to confer the power of persuasive eloquence on all who kiss it, is situated at the top of the battlements of Blarney Castle (c. 1446), and is a major tourist attraction.
