Blasis, Carlo (1795-1878)

Italian ballet teacher of French extraction. He was successful as a dancer in Paris and in Milan, where he established a dancing school in 1837. His celebrated treatise on the art of dancing, Traité élémentaire, théoretique et pratique de l'art de la danse/Treatise on the Dance (1820), forms the basis of classical dance training.
