Blomdahl, Karl-Birger (1916–1968)

Swedish composer. He wrote ballets and symphonies in expressionist style. His opera Aniara (1957–59) incorporates electronic music and is set in a spaceship fleeing Earth after nuclear war.

Blomdahl studied at Stockholm under various teachers, including Hilding Rosenberg and Mogens Wöldike. In 1960 he was appointed professor at the Stockholm Conservatory.

Orchestral

three symphonies (1943, 1947, 1950), symphonic dances, concert overture, Concerto grosso for orchestra; violin concerto (1946), viola concerto.

Chamber

chamber concerto for piano, wind, and percussion; two string quartets, string trio, woodwind trio, suites for cello and piano, and bassoon and piano; piano pieces.

Other

trios for women's voices; incidental music.
