blood testLaboratory evaluation of a blood sample. There are numerous blood tests, from simple typing to establish the blood group to sophisticated biochemical assays of substances, such as hormones, present in the blood only in minute quantities. The majority of tests fall into one of three categories: haematology (testing the state of the blood itself), microbiology (identifying infection), and blood chemistry (reflecting chemical events elsewhere in the body). Before operations, a common test is haemoglobin estimation to determine how well a patient might tolerate blood loss during surgery. How to thank TFD for its existence?
