Annual plant Ambrosia artemisiifolia in the Compositae family, common on roadsides and waste ground throughout North America. It grows to 150 cm/5 ft in height and has long spikes of yellow-green flowers; the great ragweed A. trifida grows to 240 cm/8 ft. Both are wind-pollinated; they produce large quantities of pollen and are a major cause of hay fever.
