| Bloom's taxonomy of learning stages progresses through knowledge, comprehension/ understanding, application of knowledge, analysis, synthesis and evaluation. In Fact, my own analysis of California's Content Standards shows that just over one quarter of the standards are written at a "remember" or an "understand" level, using "A Taxonomy for Learning, Teaching, and Assessing: A Revision of Bloom's Taxonomy of Educational Objectives" (Anderson and Krathwohl, et al, 2001) as the guide for rating the standards. If you consider Bloom's taxonomy of learning skills, these young students are taking a concept they've been taught, understanding and synthesizing it, and then putting it out there for others in a different medium," says Donovan. |
