Blount, William

Blount, William (1749–1800)

US governor and senator. Blount represented North Carolina in the Continental Congress from 1782 to 1787. He was appointed governor of Tennessee territory in 1790, and became one of the new state of Tennessee's first US senators in 1796. He was expelled from office when he became implicated in a conspiracy with the British to attack Louisiana and Florida, but his impeachment was dismissed. He was later elected to the Tennessee senate.
